Join us for Q&A with Katya, our certified eyelash extension expert, about everything you wanted to know about gorgeous lashes!

Q:  Eyelash extensions have become extremely popular in recent years.  How does lash extensions work?

A: Eyelash extensions are a gorgeous way to enhance your own natural eyelashes without mascara or strip false lashes.  Individual lashes, made from synthetic or natural fibers, are applied to the base of existing top lashes to create longer, fuller looking lashes.  Lower lashes are protected and covered with a soft pad.  Lash extensions last for 2-3 weeks and clients can get refills to continue maintaining their lashes.

Q: What are the different eyelash extensions options?

A: Looma Spa’s approach is about enhancing your natural beauty.  During the consultation, I chat with the client about the look they are trying to achieve and select from the following three options - Classic, Hybrid and Mink Extensions.  All lashes are gently and meticulously applied, to create realistic and gorgeous looking lashes.

Classic Extensions - great starter set for first time extension clients.  Individual synthetic lashes are attached to the base of existing lashes to create extra length and lash thickness.

Hybrid Extensions – great for clients looking for additional volume and fullness to their lashes.  Synthetic lashes with single and multiple strands are attached to existing lashes for added volume and impact.

Mink Lashes - Sammi.jpg

Mink Extensions – luxurious featherweight natural fiber lashes for clients seeking gentle and most natural looking, fluffy lashes.  Light mink lashes, which cause less strain on lashes, twist less and may lead to longer lash retention.

Q:  How long does it take for lash extensions and refills?

A:  The initial lash consultation is booked for 120 mins.  Extensions take between 90-120 mins to perform depending on the type of extensions and the amount of client’s existing lashes.  Lash refills take from 45-60 mins.  The first lash refill should be done 2 weeks after extensions, to make sure everything is holding up well.   After that, it can be spaced between 2-3 weeks.

Q: What are some of the benefits of lash extensions?

A: It’s more dramatic than mascara, yet far more natural than strip false eyelashes.  Clients with even short lashes can apply eyelash extensions. People love waking up with gorgeous lashes and saving time on applying less makeup.  It opens up the eyes, eliminates mascara shadows and drooping lashes caused by humidity, resulting in a fresh look all day long.

Q:  There are many places offering lash extensions at different prices. How can you tell you are getting quality lash extensions?

A: It’s important to look for a certified eyelash extension expert with many years of experience. You will notice a higher quality in the gentle application, thorough and even lash application, and customization of lashes to your eye and lash shape.   Watch out for places offering low prices for quick extension applications, which can result in short lasting lumpy lashes and uncomfortable application.   Lashes are one of the most important and noticeable beauty features, so its worth the research and investment.

Q: How can I make lash extensions last?

A:  How well you care for your lashes at home makes a huge difference at how well your lashes last. Here are the Do’s & Don’t of lash care tips between refills!

DO’S
-
Be careful not to touch eyelashes when face washing.  Any lash movement can lead to premature fall out or lash twisting
- Use a cotton swab with water based makeup remover to clean lash line
- Use dry mascara wand to gently comb through lashes everyday
- Practice sleeping on your back to avoid crushing lashes
- Select the right extensions for your lash type and lifestyle. The more dramatic and heavier the lash, the more likely it can twist and fall out.
- Schedule refills regularly to support growing lashes and even out your lash line.
- If you decide to discontinue lash extensions, get them professionally removed rather than growing them out to preserve your healthy lash line. Growing lashes can be weighed down from dangling extensions, leading to natural lash fall outs.

DON’T
- Avoid water contact with your lashes up to 24 hours after extensions / refills
- Avoid using oil based cleansers and makeup removers on lashes, as oil cause the lash glue to break down
- Avoid using applying oil based eyeliner, heavily eyeliner and greasy concealers.
- Avoid using mascara because it can snag eyelash extensions
- Don’t rub your face with towel but gently pat your face dry, avoiding the lashes
- Try not to press your face hard into pillow when turning in bed
- Avoid water directly from the shower head to your face, as the pressure will lead to premature lash fall out.
